Why Silent Valley National Park Is Called Silent Valley?

The British Rulers enjoyed Kerala when they were ruling India. As its Nature as it is really attractive, British rulers loved it. They discovered the virgin forest here in colonial times. You know, This forest was so silent and no noise from outside. It was only the noise of the cicadas after dark. Therefore, colonials named this place Silent Valley. Lately, The Government of Kerala, continue that name even after the Independence. That’s how this place received this name.

The Kerala State Electricity Board decided to implement the Silent Valley Hydro-Electric Project (SVHEP). That is centered on a dam across the Kunthipuzha River. I will explain a small description of this river.

Kunthipuzha river
Kunthipuzha river

(So, The Kunthipuzha river is a waterway. The river is located in the Kerala state of South India. This rover flows through the Silent Valley National Park. there is another name for this river. Some people say “Thuthapuzha river”. Both are the same. okay. The word “Kunthipuzha” is official. But the local villagers use that river as Thuthapuzha. That’s the reason. The Bharathapuzha river is the main contributor to this river. That is also important. Because the Bharathapuzha is the second-longest river in Kerala. The people in Mannarkad Thaluk use this river mainly. Further, Pattambi thaluk people also use that. These are the regions established in the Palakkad district in Kerala.)

These incidents happened in the year of 1973. The lion-tailed macaque faced a challenge because of some projects. That is a real problem. Because this animal is endemic to this place. In the year of 1976, the Kerala State Electricity Board announced plans to begin dam construction. At that time, the people who struggled with this shared about these projects and their effects. Therefore, People were aware. This project made history for an Environmental moment.
